People's Finance Review: L3 autonomous driving, needs to be fast and stable.
Recently, the first L3-level autonomous driving special license plate "Chongqing AD0001Z" in the country officially hit the road in Chongqing. The driver only needs to activate it with one key, and the vehicle enters automatic driving mode. Previously, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially approved two L3-level vehicle models to hit the road. Chongqing issuing the first L3-level license plate is a specific manifestation of this policy being implemented. Currently, in addition to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved Deep Blue SL3, Extreme Fox Alpha S, Huawei is also conducting L3 testing in Shenzhen, covering over 1000km of highways. Beyond L3, Baidu's Apollo has achieved large-scale operation of L4-level autonomous driving in multiple cities in China, even expanding internationally. Companies such as Didi Autonomous Driving and Pony.ai have also carried out L4 fully automated demonstration applications in some cities. The implementation of L3 licenses will also help promote the landing of future L4 autonomous driving, accelerate the maturity and perfection of the intelligent networked industry chain. The rapid development of autonomous driving technology also means that technology will quickly impact society, so it is crucial to handle the relationship between technology and society properly. First and foremost, safety is paramount. As long as the overall safety of autonomous driving meets or exceeds human levels, it is feasible and beneficial in production. Secondly, there have always been concerns in society about artificial intelligence causing a reduction in jobs, but at the same time, it will also create new positions such as remote operators and data labeling staff. More importantly, autonomous driving can improve traffic efficiency, make cities larger and more efficient, create more new demands and job opportunities. Therefore, while strengthening safety supervision, various measures should be taken to guide the society in correctly understanding the risks of technology through legislation, market rules, and other aspects to coordinate positive and negative external effects, encourage companies to innovate in technology, reduce the impact of technology, and allow more people to enjoy the benefits of new technology.
