A consortium of multiple state attorneys general in the United States announced on the 22nd that Mercedes-Benz USA and its parent company Daimler AG have agreed to pay nearly $150 million to settle allegations of cheating on diesel emissions with multiple prosecutors in the United States. Prior to this, a consortium of attorneys general from more than 40 states, the District of Columbia, and the overseas territory of Puerto Rico jointly identified Mercedes-Benz for installing cheat software on vehicles to pass emissions tests, involving over 200,000 diesel passenger cars and vans sold in the United States from 2008 to 2016. According to prosecutors, the actual emissions of some vehicles exceeded the standard by 40 times.
