The French National Assembly passed a temporary budget to avoid a government shutdown.

Due to the inability of lawmakers to reach an agreement on a complete financial plan, the French National Assembly has approved a temporary budget law for 2026 to keep the country running until January. This law, known as the "special law," allows the government to continue taxing and borrowing without a full budget plan, as was also done at the end of last year. The law essentially extends the 2025 financial plan into the new year and is expected to be approved by the Senate later on Tuesday. With lawmakers failing to reach a compromise on the budget last Friday, discussions on the budget have been postponed to next year, forcing French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu to seek emergency measures, as concerns grow about how the government will control the deficit.
