After facing strong resistance from farmers, the UK Prime Minister made concessions on the issue of inheritance tax.
The Labour government led by Prime Minister Starmer has increased the threshold for agricultural property inheritance tax from 1 million to 2.5 million. This change means that married couples or civil partners can now inherit a total of 5 million of farm or other business property without having to pay inheritance tax. Previously, the government had originally proposed cutting agricultural tax relief, which angered farmers across the UK, leading the government to backtrack on its decision.
