Due to the abuse of its dominant market position, Ryanair was fined nearly 2.56 billion euros by Italian regulatory authorities.
On December 23, the Italian Competition and Market Authority announced a fine of nearly 256 million euros for Irish Ryanair, accusing the airline of abusing its dominant market position. The statement pointed out that Ryanair set up additional barriers for passengers booking tickets through travel agencies, such as facial recognition, and hindered bookings by disabling payments and deleting accounts, repeatedly disrupting ticket sales. In addition, the Italian Competition and Market Authority stated that Ryanair also forced travel agencies to sign restrictive contracts, obstructing them from bundling sales with other services, and publicly attacking non-cooperative travel agencies. These actions took place from April 2023 to April 2025.
