American media: The U.S. government's suspension of offshore wind power projects will harm its own energy development prospects.

On December 22nd local time, the US government halted five large offshore wind projects on the East Coast citing "national security concerns." The US Department of Defense believes that the blades and high reflective towers of offshore wind turbines could interfere with radar. The US media has paid great attention to this, stating that halting offshore wind projects will threaten the power system and hinder the country's energy development prospects. According to reports from the US Public Broadcasting Corporation, the idea of developing offshore wind projects to power cities began about 25 years ago and was officially promoted 10 years ago after receiving approvals from various agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Defense to ensure that turbine blades would not pose a threat to radar. Ultimately, it passed all tests, received the necessary permits, and billions of dollars have been invested in the projects. The report also mentioned that building fossil fuel power plants as an alternative would take five to seven years to deliver gas turbines, while nuclear energy projects would require even longer. The US is currently facing an unprecedented surge in energy demand driven primarily by economic electrification and the rise of artificial intelligence data centers. From a national security perspective, an unstable grid that cannot support the growing energy demand poses a real security threat.
