Tokyo Electric Power Company said on the 22nd that the 17th operation of discharging radioactive contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant had ended. Despite strong questioning and opposition from the international community, Japan unilaterally started the discharge of radioactive contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in August 2023. As of the end of the 17th discharge, the total amount of radioactive contaminated water discharged from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant has reached approximately 133,000 tons. According to the data released by Tokyo Electric Power Company on the 22nd, the 17th discharge of radioactive contaminated water started on the 4th of this month. During the process, there was a temporary suspension of discharge due to an earthquake in the eastern sea area of Aomori Prefecture on the night of the 8th, and it was resumed on the 9th. A total of 7,833 tons of radioactive contaminated water was discharged this time, containing about 24 trillion becquerels of tritium. The data shows that Tokyo Electric Power Company plans to discharge a total of 7 times in the 2025 fiscal year, with a total discharge amount of about 54,600 tons. The last discharge of the 2025 fiscal year will take place in March 2026.
