On December 22nd, the 8th plenary session of the 13th Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China was held. The meeting summarized the work of 2025 and deployed the tasks for 2026. The meeting emphasized the need to solidly promote high-quality economic development. It called for deeper promotion of the integrated development of education, technology and talent, and for solid progress in building world-class universities, research institutions, enterprises, and talent gathering places. It called for accelerating the construction of the world-leading science and technology park in Zhongguancun, promoting the coordinated development of the "three cities and one district," and creating a favorable innovation ecosystem. It also called for accelerated construction of a modern industrial system, promoting the upgrading of key industries, accelerating the development of strategic emerging industries, and organizing successful events for robots. It also called for speeding up the creation of a global benchmark city for the digital economy. It requested the extension of productive services to the high end of the value chain, the improvement of the quality of lifestyle services, and the successful implementation of five major financial tasks. It also called for comprehensive expansion of domestic demand, deepening the construction of international consumption centers in cities, and expanding effective investments.
