The Global Times cited reports from Taiwan's China Times News Network, stating that the Kuomintang and People First Party "legislators" announced on the 19th that they would propose to "impeach" Lai Ching-teh, and a simultaneous online petition to "impeach Lai Ching-teh" appeared. As of the evening of the 22nd, the website showed that the current number of signatures had exceeded 8.17 million, surpassing the number of votes received by Tsai Ing-wen in the election. It is understood that the petition initially set a target of 5.586 million votes that Lai Ching-teh received in the 2024 Taiwan election, and within a short period of time, a large number of signatures poured in, causing the platform to crash briefly, but the goal was achieved on the evening of the 19th. Subsequently, the petition raised the target to Tsai Ing-wen's 8.17 million votes in the 2016 election. Some analysts believe that this indicates that the Democratic Progressive Party has now lost the support it once had in Taiwan's leadership elections.
