Potential antibiotic resistant genes have been detected in water samples from multiple locations around the world.

An international research team conducted testing and systematic analysis on 1240 wastewater samples from 111 countries and 351 cities, and found that potential antibiotic-resistant genes in bacteria are widespread across all continents worldwide. The findings were recently published in the journal Nature Communications.
