Decoding Chongqing's 200 billion pet consumption market.

Officials from the Chongqing Agriculture and Rural Affairs Commission stated that by 2024, the number of dogs and cats kept in Chongqing has exceeded 2 million, with an annual growth rate of 18% in the pet market. A comprehensive industry chain covering breeding, food processing, research and development of intelligent products, chain medical services, and new retail services has been initially formed, with the overall scale exceeding 20 billion yuan. Dadukou District is becoming the core area for the pet industry in Chongqing. The district plans to complete a 20,000 square meter standardized pet trading market within the year, and in 2026, start the construction of a pet expo park and a supporting pet-friendly commercial street. They will also collaborate with Southwest University to establish a pet research center focusing on vaccine development and intelligent wearable technology.
