A recent study published in the international academic journal "Nature Communications" shows that lead emitted by human activities in the North Atlantic is continuously input into the Arctic Ocean through ocean circulation, and accumulates in some seabed sediments at levels that may affect benthic organisms. Researchers warn that climate change and the resulting decrease in sea ice may lead to the release of highly toxic dissolved lead from lead-containing sediments.
