Twenty-five Democratic lawmakers in the United States have written to the Inspector General's Office of the Department of Commerce, requesting an investigation into whether Commerce Secretary Lutenick inappropriately promoted an artificial intelligence data center project for the benefit of his family members. The letter, led by Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and Pennsylvania Representative Madeline Dean, was sent out on Thursday. A recent investigation revealed that Lutenick's official actions since taking office have continued to overlap with his previous business interests. Lutenick had previously transferred his role within the Cantor Fitzgerald enterprise network to his two sons, who now collectively hold controlling stakes with two other siblings. Multiple official actions taken by Lutenick intersect with projects involving family-affiliated companies. For example, in trade negotiations with South Korea, he requested South Korea to invest billions of dollars to support American industries, while Cantor and Newmark are assisting in financing an AI data center proposed in Amarillo, Texas, which is seeking to receive some of the funding from South Korea.
