Germany plans to issue 20-year bonds: This niche term has previously had a cold reception in the United States.
Tammo Diemer, Co-Head of the German Federal Finance Agency, stated that Germany plans to sell 20-year bonds, with the first issuance expected to start in 2026. Previously, Germany loosened strict fiscal rules earlier this year with the aim of increasing sales by expanding the range of debt products. The German Finance Agency believes that there is a growing demand for 20-year debt in the market, especially considering that the reform of the Dutch pension system is expected to weaken the market's appetite for longer-term bonds.
