Barry van der Laan of Monex Europe stated in a report that the cautious stance of the Norwegian central bank towards loose monetary policy provided mild support for the Norwegian krone after the bank's policy decision on Thursday. The central bank kept interest rates at 4.0% and expressed no rush to cut rates. van der Laan said this further raised the threshold for a recent rate cut. "Compared to the Eurozone, where inflation has fallen more rapidly, loose monetary policy may come earlier and faster, thus supporting the view that the Norwegian krone may outperform the euro in the near future, even as global risk aversion continues to drive short-term fluctuations." The euro fell by 0.1% to 11.9684 krone.
