Hainan Free Trade Port is closed, and the volume of passenger and freight transportation in the Qiongzhou Strait is showing an increasing trend.
As the "water artery" connecting Guangdong and Hainan, the passenger and freight traffic volume in the Qiongzhou Strait has been showing a growth trend in recent days. Data shows that since December, as of December 17th, the number of passenger ferries, as well as the volume of passengers and vehicles transported through the Qiongzhou Strait, have increased by 12.7%, 14.1%, and 13.6% respectively compared to the same period in November, with the volume of new energy vehicle transportation increasing by 19.4%. It is predicted that during the 2026 Spring Festival travel period, the passenger volume in the Qiongzhou Strait will reach 4.97 million people, and the number of vehicles will be 1.16 million, showing a significant increase compared to previous years. At the same time, the proportion of new energy vehicles being transported will continue to rise, with new energy vehicles expected to account for 28% of the total during the 2026 Spring Festival travel period, reaching a daily transportation volume of 6,200 vehicles, an increase of 100% compared to the previous year.
