On December 17th local time, UN Secretary-General Guterres made a statement to the media regarding the situation in Yemen. Guterres warned that the recent escalation of tension in Yemen could lead to a full-scale conflict with serious implications for regional peace and security. He emphasized that unilateral military actions would not help promote peace, but rather deepen divisions, solidify opposition positions, and significantly increase the risk of the situation spiraling out of control and spreading to the region. Once full hostilities resume, not only will Yemen's stability be at risk, but it could also have serious implications for the security of the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Horn of Africa region. Guterres called on all parties in Yemen to exercise maximum restraint, resolve their differences through dialogue, and urged regional countries to play a constructive role, coordinate their support for UN mediation efforts, and uphold common security interests. Guterres stressed that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen must be respected, and a political solution remains the only way out.
