On December 15th, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the first batch of conditional L3 level autonomous driving vehicle models approved for entry in China. Two models, adapted for urban congestion and highway driving respectively, will conduct pilot tests in designated areas in Beijing and Chongqing. "China's autonomous driving has taken an important step in its development process, as L3 level autonomous driving transitions from the testing phase to the commercial application phase," said Wang Ning, director of the Automotive Industry and Technology Strategy Research Center at Tongji University's School of Automotive Studies. This indicates that the maturity of L3 level autonomous driving technology has been recognized by authorities, demonstrating the feasibility of mass production applications and laying the groundwork for the development of more advanced levels of autonomous driving in the future.
