Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations announced on December 16 in Budapest that the Hungarian electricity company had signed a liquefied natural gas procurement agreement with the American company Chevron for a total of 2 billion cubic meters, with a duration of 5 years. The announcement was made during a press conference held jointly with James Danly, the Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Energy. According to the agreement, Chevron will supply 400 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas to the Hungarian electricity company each year. This will be the first time that American liquefied natural gas is included in Hungary's energy supply structure. The Minister also mentioned that Hungary has signed relevant contracts with the American Westinghouse company for the supply of nuclear fuel to the Paks nuclear power plant, with plans to start in 2028-2029. The two sides have also reached an agreement on using American technology to build small modular reactors in Hungary.
