President Donald Trump said he will begin the final round of interviews for the next chairman of the Federal Reserve this week, and he will consider several candidates. "We will consider several different candidates, but I already know who I want," Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Tuesday. The Financial Times reported on the same day, citing unnamed senior officials, that Kevin Hassett, the chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, remains the top choice to succeed Jerome Powell as head of the Federal Reserve, but it is not a done deal. Trump recently said he will soon select a new Fed chairman, but may not announce it publicly until early 2026. The report also said that Trump and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will interview former Fed governor Kevin Warsh on Wednesday. The report also stated that at least one more interview is expected to take place next week. According to the report, White House Chief of Staff Suzy Welsh may also attend the meeting.
