On the 5th local time, German President Steinmeier visited the English city of Coventry and held a wreath-laying ceremony at the site of the original Coventry Cathedral. Coventry was heavily bombed by Nazi Germany during World War II. On November 14, 1940, Coventry was bombed, with at least 568 people killed and more than half of the houses destroyed or damaged. The German President ended his three-day state visit to the UK that day, marking the first state visit to the UK by a German head of state in 27 years.
