On December 5th, researcher Wang Dayan from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention Virus Institute stated at a press conference held by the National Health Commission that flu patients and asymptomatic carriers are the main sources of influenza transmission. From the end of the incubation period to the acute phase, there is infectivity, with shedding lasting 3 to 7 days. Children, immunocompromised individuals, and critically ill patients may shed the virus for over a week. Wang Dayan specifically noted that flu patients can be considered no longer infectious if they meet the following conditions: normal body temperature for over 24 hours and significant symptom resolution for over 48 hours, but those with weakened immune systems may need a longer observation period. The assessment should be based on symptoms, time, and test results, and if necessary, should follow medical advice for returning to work or school.
