Xinhua News Agency: "Big words attract attention, small words exempt responsibility," such tricks should be phased out.
Xinhua News Agency published a commentary, claiming "download the app and get a large red envelope", with a small explanation next to it saying "only for new users or subject to actual circumstances"; declaring "50% off everything", but with a very small "starting from" word following the "50% off"... Some businesses play word games in advertising slogans, causing consumers to have grievances. Attract attention with big words first, then use small words to disclaim responsibility, businesses using this kind of "cleverness" show no sincerity to consumers, they may win a temporary advantage, but in the long run, it fundamentally undermines the market's integrity, damages consumer trust, and harms the entire consumer environment. "Small disclaimer" is by no means a "protective talisman" for businesses. Advertising laws, consumer rights protection laws, etc., clearly stipulate that advertisements should be truthful and clear, and should not be misleading. In judicial practice, courts often use the "general attention" of ordinary consumers as a standard for judgment. Those deliberate, hidden "small words" that are contradictory to the prominent advertising content may not only absolve businesses from responsibility, but may also serve as concrete evidence of false advertising or fraud.
