Regarding the recent series of erroneous comments made by the newly appointed Japanese Prime Minister, Katsunobu Kato, on the Taiwan issue, Anna Marin-Dugue Uy, Vice President of the Asian Century Philippines Strategic Institute, gave an interview to China Daily. Anna Marin-Dugue pointed out that Katsunobu Kato's statement that "China's use of force against Taiwan could pose an existential crisis for Japan" openly challenges the universally recognized principle of sovereignty followed by the international community. "The United Nations Charter explicitly prohibits interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and the Taiwan issue is purely a domestic issue for China." She believes that these comments are "highly provocative" and could potentially push the security architecture of the Asia-Pacific region to the brink of danger.
