The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on December 3 that in order to further ensure the safety of construction sites, all buildings undergoing major repair works in the territory, including public housing, private residences, and government buildings, must immediately stop external wall construction if scaffolding nets are in place, and complete the dismantling of the scaffolding nets within three working days. Relevant departments of the SAR Government will immediately contact the contractors of the projects to supervise the dismantling requirements. For projects that are unable to be completed on time due to special reasons, they must report to the relevant authorities in advance and can only receive special treatment after a reasonable review. In addition, the Buildings Department is expected to release new operational guidelines next week, requiring all scaffolding net materials to be sampled on site and inspected by designated testing agencies before they can be reinstalled and used.
