The International Atomic Energy Agency held the first AI and nuclear energy seminar.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held the first International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Nuclear Energy at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna on the 3rd, focusing on how nuclear energy can meet the growing electricity demand of AI data centers, as well as how AI can support the development of nuclear technology. IAEA Director General Grossi said at the opening ceremony, "There are two forces shaping the future of humanity at an unprecedented speed: the rise of AI, and the global transition to clean and reliable energy." He also stated that nuclear energy is an energy source that combines low-carbon power generation capability, round-the-clock reliable operation, high power density, grid stability, and scalability. The IAEA released a statement saying that according to data from the International Energy Agency, data centers will account for 1.5% of global electricity demand in 2024, and this number could double by 2030. Nuclear energy, with its ability to provide reliable low-carbon electricity, is increasingly seen as a key solution to meet this demand. At the same time, AI provides powerful tools for optimizing reactor performance, simplifying construction processes, and increasing operational efficiency, helping nuclear energy unleash its full potential while ensuring the highest safety standards.
