It was reported on the 1st that at least nine Japanese companies, including Toyota Tsusho and Sumitomo Chemical, have filed lawsuits with the U.S. International Trade Court demanding the return of tariffs paid based on the high tariff measures of the Trump administration. The purpose of this action is to obtain a refund if the U.S. Supreme Court, which is currently hearing lawsuits regarding the legality of measures such as "reciprocal tariffs," makes an illegal ruling. According to the complaint, the plaintiffs argue that even if the Supreme Court rules the measures illegal, there is no guarantee that the tariffs will be refunded. The plaintiffs are requesting a full refund of the tariffs in question. (Kyodo News)
