The Taiwan Affairs Office responds to Taiwan's investigation of mainland Chinese food products.
On the morning of December 3rd, the Taiwan Affairs Office held its routine press conference. A journalist asked: "Some 'supervisory commissioners' in Taiwan have claimed that in recent years, mainland China's popular snacks such as Luosifen, spicy sticks, wax bottle candies, etc., have been using a loophole in small parcels to avoid inspection, allowing them to directly enter Taiwan through express delivery and logistics companies. They have already applied for an automatic investigation, causing a lot of complaints among the people in Taiwan. What is your comment on this?"
Spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhang Han, replied: "Both sides of the strait share the same language, customs, and youth have the same preferences for food and culture. It is completely normal. Nowadays, Taiwanese compatriots, especially young people, eating snacks from mainland China, watching mainland TV dramas, and singing mainland pop songs has become a trend and a new way of life. Democratic Progressive Party politicians are going against the will of the people, stubbornly adhering to an 'anti-mainland' mindset, and engaging in political manipulation for personal gain, which will only be scorned by the people."
