The chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Paul Atkins, said that the agency will introduce a series of proposals starting from January next year to encourage more companies to go public. In an interview on Tuesday, Atkins said that he plans to propose new policy initiatives to clear up the "barnacles" in SEC regulation, allowing "our ship to navigate quickly" through the waters of the capital markets. He mentioned that the number of publicly traded companies today is only about half of what it was 30 years ago. These proposals include limiting what Atkins calls "meaningless" shareholder lawsuits, adjusting corporate governance requirements, and helping small businesses attract investors. Atkins also said that he plans to announce specific measures for an "innovation exemption" for digital asset companies. In his speech in November, he expressed his hope to develop special rules for cryptocurrencies that can "promote capital formation" while ensuring investor protection.
