According to the report by the German magazine "Der Spiegel" and the Polish TV station World News Network on December 1st, the German Ministry of Defense confirmed to "Der Spiegel" that approximately 20,000 units of ammunition belonging to the German Federal Armed Forces were stolen from a civilian truck. The report stated that the truck belonged to a civilian transport company that had a contract with the German military. The truck was parked in an industrial area near the town of Burg in northeastern Germany when the theft occurred. The parking lot had no security personnel and the driver was resting at a nearby hotel. When the driver woke up the next morning, he discovered that the cargo had been stolen, including approximately 10,000 rounds of live ammunition for handguns, 9,900 rounds of training ammunition for assault rifles, and hundreds of smoke grenades. The report mentioned that a spokesperson for the German Ministry of Defense called this incident a "serious security breach" and stated that the related ammunition "must not fall into the hands of criminals." The department stated that the civilian transport company failed to follow security procedures and left the truck carrying ammunition from the German Federal Armed Forces unattended during an unplanned overnight stop.
