December 1st is World AIDS Day. The journalist learned from the National Health Commission that transmission of AIDS through blood transfusion in China has been essentially blocked, and effective control has been achieved in mother-to-child transmission and injection drug use transmission. The rate of diagnosis and detection of infected individuals continues to increase, with treatment coverage and virus suppression rates both reaching over 95%. This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's efforts in AIDS prevention and control. Deputy Director Xia Gang of the National Health Commission introduced that in the past 40 years, China's AIDS prevention and control system has been continuously improved, with constant innovation in technical methods and strategies. Accessibility and convenience of prevention and control services have improved, and the AIDS epidemic has been continuously controlled at a low prevalence level. The AIDS testing window period has evolved from "monthly waiting" to "weekly observation" and now to "daily determination"; early identification technology for HIV-exposed children and a closed-loop management system during pregnancy have helped lower the mother-to-child transmission rate of AIDS to below 2%. The successful treatment rate of patients has reached 96%, with a decrease in mortality rate by 86% compared to 2003. These data highlight the new progress in AIDS prevention and control in China.
