In recent years, our embassy has often received reports of judicial cases from African governments or requests for urgent consular assistance from our citizens, all of which involve Chinese citizens encountering major security incidents or facing serious security threats due to their involvement in the local gold mining industry. Some of these incidents involve Chinese citizens being sentenced for illegal gold mining due to lack of legal documents or tax evasion, resulting in hefty fines, confiscation of equipment, deportation; some have been deceived into investing a large amount of money in poor mines, leading to financial ruin; some have been attacked and killed by anti-government armed groups; some have fallen victim to conflicts between different forces or countries, leading to their tragic deaths; some have died from infectious diseases such as severe malaria; some have been disabled or killed due to disputes with other shareholders, with claims of "car accidents" or "hanging"; some have been repeatedly kidnapped due to their assets being targeted; some have been deceived into working in mines, had their documents confiscated, and became "mining slaves." All of the above incidents have caused serious mental and physical harm and huge financial losses to the individuals involved. At the first instance of incident, our embassy has promptly provided emergency consular assistance to our compatriots, mobilizing all resources, exerting all efforts, and fully protecting their safety, striving to minimize their losses. At the same time, our embassy deeply understands the immense pain of the individuals involved and also feels the great sadness of their families back home. An elderly mother from a province in China came to Africa to handle the affairs of her young son and cried, "The biggest regret of my life is not stopping my son from going to Africa to mine for gold." Based on the above, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Consular Protection and Assistance Regulations of the People's Republic of China, our embassy would like to remind once again: do not go to dangerous red zones outside the provinces of Central Africa for work, and avoid getting involved in high-risk industries such as gold mining. If you are already engaged in activities in dangerous red zones for various reasons, please immediately stop your activities, leave the area, and immediately report to the embassy. The embassy will provide all necessary assistance for the safety of the individuals involved.
