The European Union makes a big U-turn: relaxing strict regulation on landmark technology.
After nearly 10 years of strong regulation of the technology industry, the European Union is beginning to change course. On November 19th, in response to concerns that excessive regulation is stifling economic growth, the EU announced a reform plan called the "Digital Services Act" aimed at reducing and simplifying rules related to artificial intelligence and data privacy, in an effort to maintain global competitiveness. This reform has the support of two major countries, France and Germany. "It is clear that the winds are changing," said Matthias Frhlen, co-founder of the Brussels digital policy consulting company AWO, "A continent that has prided itself on regulating technology for at least 10 years is now almost making a complete U-turn and rethinking its strategy."
