Sotheby's global new headquarters' first evening auction refreshed its record for the highest total evening auction turnover in a single day.
On the evening of November 18th local time, Sotheby's held its first evening auction at its new headquarters in the Brhl building, achieving a total turnover of 7.06 billion US dollars, setting a new record for the highest single-day evening auction in Sotheby's history. Gustav Klimt's masterpiece "Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer" led the auction, selling for 236 million US dollars, setting a new record for the highest price ever achieved at Sotheby's, doubling the artist's previous auction record. It also became the second most expensive artwork in auction history and the most expensive modern artwork in auction history.
