The 30th high-level meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Belm, Brazil on the 17th. The Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention, Simon Stiell, called on the attending representatives to accelerate consensus on key issues to ensure that the conference achieves tangible results. Stiell praised the good intentions shown by all parties in the first week of COP30. He stated that within the first 7 days of the conference, countries pledged to raise $1 trillion for investment in clean energy and grids, support a global plan to quadruple sustainable fuels, incentivize new developments in green industries, and begin preparations for new climate adaptation investments, all of which indicate that the Paris Agreement is a broad consensus for humanity to address the global climate crisis. Stiell also pointed out that COP30 still has a lot of difficult tasks ahead, requiring close cooperation from all parties to effectively advance global climate governance. He urged all attendees to show effective climate cooperation in a faster and fairer way, pushing for substantial progress. "I see a genuine resolve from all parties to continue efforts based on the significant progress made in previous climate conferences. This once again demonstrates that climate cooperation can indeed drive substantial progress, but it must be faster and more equitable."
