The price of Japanese new rice has reached a new high.

On the 18th local time, the Japan Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced the new rice transaction prices between shipping groups and wholesalers. The average price for all varieties of rice produced in October 2025 is 37,058 Japanese yen per 60 kilograms of unhusked rice, an increase of 163 yen from September, reaching a historic high. Since the summer of 2024, due to factors such as extreme heat leading to a poor rice harvest, rice prices in Japan have began to rise.
