The Israeli military strongly opposes the US plan to sell F-35 aircraft to Saudi Arabia.
Recently, the Israel Defense Forces submitted a formal position paper to the Israeli government leadership strongly opposing the possible sale of F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia by the United States, and warning that this move could weaken Israel's air superiority in the Middle East. The paper states that Israel's air force's advantage in the region relies on the exclusive use of fifth-generation stealth aircraft. It also states that Israel's "Adir" squadron's long-range operations depend on this exclusivity, and if Saudi Arabia deploys similar aircraft, it will weaken Israel's operational advantage. The paper also warns that if Saudi Arabia purchases F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin, it could take up critical production lines, delay Israel's orders, and disrupt Israel's air force modernization plan.
