Airbus won a new customer by securing a 150-plane A321neo order from Flydubai, causing a blow to Boeing, which had previously been the preferred manufacturer for the airline. The memorandum of understanding was announced on Tuesday at the Dubai Airshow, marking Airbus' first major contract at the event, while Boeing had recently won a 65-plane 777X wide-body aircraft order from Flydubai's sister company, Emirates. Winning the order from Flydubai in the Middle East market, where Boeing has historically held an advantage, is strategically significant for Airbus. Supplier switches in the single-aisle aircraft market are rare, as most airlines prefer to stick with one supplier to reduce costs and complexity. Additionally, Airbus also received additional orders for A330neo and A350-1000 long-range aircraft from Etihad Airways. However, the long-awaited A350-1000 order from Emirates remains uncertain at this airshow, as their president, Tim Clark, stated that the aircraft's engine performance did not meet their requirements.
