Spain implements nationwide measures for raising poultry in order to control the spread of avian influenza.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food announced in a bulletin on the 13th that all poultry farming nationwide will be subject to confinement management starting from today, in response to the recent spread of bird flu epidemic. The bulletin stated that the outdoor rearing ban, previously implemented only in more than 1,200 high-risk towns, will be expanded to all free-range and ecological poultry farms nationwide. The new measures also include banning the mixed breeding of ducks and geese with other poultry, prohibiting the use of untreated water sources that may come into contact with wild birds, and strengthening the protection of outdoor drinking devices. Since the beginning of this year, multiple bird flu outbreaks have been reported in poultry farms in various regions of Spain, with several cases of infection recorded in wild birds. The Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that with the migration of birds and the seasonal drop in temperature, the risk of virus transmission is increasing, and strengthening biosecurity measures is crucial for ensuring the supply of poultry eggs and meat.
