Tesla has recalled 10,500 Powerwall batteries for potential fire risks.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Tesla will recall approximately 10,500 residential backup batteries Powerwall 2. The recall notice states, "Some lithium-ion batteries in certain Powerwall 2 systems may cause the device to stop working during normal use, resulting in overheating. In some cases, smoke or flames may occur, potentially leading to the risk of fire and burns, and even death or serious injury." Tesla blames this issue on "third-party battery defects," but has not disclosed the name of the supplier. All affected devices will be replaced free of charge.
