The China Payment and Clearing Association called for "password-free payment" not to be default activated. Journalists conducted tests on multiple platforms: activated in one step, but takes multiple steps to disable.
Recently, the China Payment and Clearing Association issued a proposal on strengthening the security management of "password-free payment" business, once again shining a spotlight on "password-free payment" in public opinion. The Association pointed out that some payment service providers still have room for improvement in terms of business security management, and some users also have weak security awareness. Therefore, the Association proposed that payment service providers should further strengthen the security management of "password-free payment" business, including: eliminating default activation, providing limit management functions, and providing a one-click cancel function for "password-free payment" in a prominent position. At the same time, the Association proposed that users should regularly check the signing status of the password-free payment, etc. Journalists tested several common payment platforms and found that currently, on average, it takes 5-6 pages to navigate within the app to cancel password-free payment, and some platforms have not clearly marked the one-click cancel function for password-free payment. Industry insiders told reporters that password-free payment itself has a certain rationality, and with platforms promising "full compensation in case of theft," it can to a certain extent ensure payment security. However, platforms should fully respect the user's choice, "don't go with the default check mark."
