The UK is investing 25 billion to build the first small modular reactor nuclear power station.
The UK government announced on the 13th that it will invest 2.5 billion in the construction of the country's first small modular nuclear reactor power station. The UK government stated that Wylfa on Anglesey Island in Wales has been selected as the site for the construction. This decision marks a key step forward in the UK's "clean energy superpower" plan, injecting important momentum into its low-carbon energy transition and energy security. It is reported that once the strategic infrastructure project is completed, it will meet the electricity needs of approximately 1.3 million households and provide core support for the UK's 2050 net zero emissions target, significantly enhancing the country's energy supply independence. The peak construction period of the project is expected to create 3,000 direct jobs and bring long-term career development opportunities and sustained economic investment to the Welsh region, helping to upgrade the local industrial chain.
