Huang Xuenong, Supervisory Director of the State Energy Administration: Coordinate the research and development of new generation technologies such as small reactors, fourth-generation reactors, and controllable nuclear fusion.
On November 12, 2025, the Fourth China Nuclear Energy High-Quality Development Conference and Shenzhen International Nuclear Energy Industry Innovation Expo were held in Shenzhen. At the conference, Huang Xuenong, the Director General of Supervision at the National Energy Administration, put forward three suggestions for the future development of nuclear power in China: firstly, to continuously optimize the technology of large pressurized water reactors, improve safety and economy through new technologies, equipment, materials, processes, and digital technology; secondly, to coordinate the development of new generation technologies such as small reactors, fourth-generation reactors, and controlled nuclear fusion, following the principle of demand-led development, to avoid missing the strategic initiative for medium and long-term development; thirdly, to strengthen the construction of the basic scientific research system in the field of nuclear power, break through the bottleneck of original technology, and achieve high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement.
