Joby will launch an electric air taxi service in Saudi Arabia.
Joby Aviation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to introduce its air taxi service in Saudi Arabia. According to the terms of the memorandum, the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority will adopt the standards of the Federal Aviation Administration to create a streamlined approval process for the company's aircraft. Joby stated that as part of the agreement, the company will provide technical expertise in model design, production, and operation. The two parties will collaborate on the development and coordination of airworthiness standards and key regulations. Founded in 2009, the company was certified to operate commercial air traffic services in 2021. In 2020, Joby expanded its partnership with Uber and signed an agreement with Delta Airlines to provide air taxi services from home to the airport. Joby stated that Saudi Arabia, along with the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, will be among the first markets to launch the company's air taxi service.
