On the 12th, Malaysia confirmed that the death toll in the recent shipwreck incident in the waters between Malaysia and Thailand has risen to 25. Malaysian Home Minister Syed Saddiq said that the priority is still to search and rescue survivors, while investigations are ongoing simultaneously. He also mentioned that this incident reflects the unstable situation and humanitarian challenges faced by some countries in the region. Malaysia will continue to collaborate with neighboring countries to address such issues. According to preliminary investigations by the Malaysian police, an estimated 300 illegal immigrants boarded a ship bound for Malaysia from Myanmar. To evade authorities' inspections and interceptions, the smuggling group divided the individuals into smaller boats near Malaysian waters, with one of them sinking in the sea between Malaysia and Thailand.
