The West Mangdou Iron Mine project in Guinea has officially started production.
The opening ceremony of the Simandou iron ore project in Guinea was held on the 11th in the port of Muriya Bay, Forecariah Province. This giant project, which has attracted global attention from the mining industry, officially started production, marking a new historical phase in the development of mineral resources on the African continent. Guinea's President, Dumbia, along with political leaders from various countries, diplomatic representatives, as well as representatives from China Baowu, Chinalco, Rio Tinto, and the Simandou Winning Consortium, media, and local officials, totaling nearly one thousand people, witnessed this historic moment together.
The Simandou iron ore project is located in southeastern Guinea and is one of the world's largest and highest-quality mining projects. With a total investment of over $20 billion, the project covers comprehensive engineering in mining, railways, and ports. The project delivered this time includes over 600 kilometers of newly constructed multi-purpose railways across Guinea and accompanying port facilities. After full production, the annual export volume of iron ore can reach up to 120 million tons.
The Director of the Presidential Office of the Guinea Presidency and Chairman of the Simandou Strategic Committee, Djakite, stated that the Simandou iron ore project is a dream that the people of Guinea have been anticipating for decades, and is a powerful engine driving the country's transformation. "The start of this project is a milestone of great significance in Guinea's development process."
The Simandou iron ore project is jointly developed by the Guinea government, Baowu, Rio Tinto, Chinalco, and the Simandou Winning Consortium. After the project officially starts production, all jointly constructed infrastructure will be transferred to a cross-Guinea company owned by the Guinea government with 15% shares and the Southern and Northern Block joint ventures with 42.5% shares each.
