Russia bans 30 Japanese citizens from entering the country in response to Japanese sanctions.
On the evening of the 11th, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an indefinite ban on 30 Japanese citizens entering the country, in response to Japan's continued sanctions against Russia. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on its website that night, stating that the Japanese citizens banned from entering include Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs official Toshihiro Kitamura, with the majority being Japanese media and education professionals. After the escalation of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, Japan continued to implement extensive sanctions against Russia following the United States. In response, Russia included Japan on the list of "unfriendly countries." In September of this year, the Japanese government once again added some Russian companies and individuals to its sanctions list.
