To implement the spirit of the Central Peripheral Work Conference and promote the "soft connectivity" of rules and standards with countries participating in the construction of the "Belt and Road Initiative," from October 26th to 31st, the Deputy Director of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Shu, led a delegation to visit Saudi Arabia and Laos at the invitation of the two countries. During the visit to Saudi Arabia, the delegation held talks with the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization, signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in conformity assessment, and reached an agreement on the cooperation text of technical and trade measures. They also visited Saudi testing agencies and laboratories to understand the barriers to testing and certification of imported products, and conducted a survey on the application of Chinese electricity standards overseas by the Saudi Electricity Company. During the visit to Laos, the delegation separately held discussions with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Laos on agricultural standardization and certification of agricultural products, construction of quality infrastructure, consumer protection, and reached an agreement on signing cooperation documents on conformity assessment. The delegation also exchanged views with the two countries' embassies, held a forum for Chinese-invested enterprises, and conducted on-site research on the "soft connectivity" issues encountered in Chinese-funded projects and their solution strategies.
