Due to the government shutdown, $5 billion worth of US weapons exports to NATO have been delayed.
On November 9th local time, according to the American news website Axios, the US State Department revealed that US arms exports worth over $5 billion were delayed due to the government shutdown. The report quoted a statement from a State Department spokesperson saying, "Democrats are obstructing crucial arms sales, including selling weapons to our NATO allies, which damages the American industrial base and puts our security and that of our partners at risk." The report pointed out that weapons sold by the US to NATO are often transferred to Ukraine. Previously, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov had pointed out that any goods, including aid to Ukraine weapons, would become legitimate targets for Russia. The Kremlin also stated that continued provision of weapons to Ukraine by the West does not help progress in negotiations and will have negative consequences.
