Indonesia plans to introduce a bill to revalue the Indonesian rupiah.
The Indonesian Ministry of Finance has announced plans to introduce a new law to revalue the Indonesian rupiah, aimed at enhancing economic efficiency, maintaining economic stability, and strengthening the credibility of the currency. A fiscal ministry regulation released on Saturday stated, "This currency revaluation law is a continuation draft law that is planned to be finalized in 2027." For years, the Indonesian government has been discussing plans to remove zeros from the currency denominations. The last time the government submitted a draft law to parliament was in 2013, proposing to remove three zeros from the rupiah banknotes, but the draft was ultimately shelved. It is currently unclear how many zeros will be removed in the latest currency revaluation plan.
